So why a blog? Why now? Well, why not!

The people who I feel most comfortable talking to, sharing my ideas and just opening up are on the other side of the pond and its often not easy to connect with them. I am not going to lie, although I love my expat life, I do miss having ¨my people¨ around. I miss being able to just talk with my friends whenever. Then I thought, well, I still have a lot to say, I cant always share it with them, so why don't just share it and letting it out on a blog.

I am a person with lots of interests who loves to do/ try new things and to keep busy. I am not the type to just sit still at all, my husband evens says ¨cant you just sit here and do nothing¨... hate to break it to you, but the answer is no love.

Alright, so now a little bit of background info. A Couple of years ago I moved to Madrid for work as an expat. Moving changed and opened my mind to a new culture and a different way of living. Spain is an incredible country, full of history, beautiful landscapes, rich culture and LOTS of personality! One of the things that I really found fascinating was the rich culture around wine. Wine in Spain is its own universe, one full of varieties, styles, regions, methods and history. I have always liked wine, to drink wine really, but honestly I had no idea of anything about it, well other than it had alcohol and that I felt fancy drinking it lol.

My knowledge of wine was basic to put it lightly, I knew they could either be red, white or rose. I knew they could be sweet or dry and that was pretty much bit... well like I said, it was basic. Going to the supermarket or even small shops in Madrid and seeing, what seemed like hundreds of bottles, all different types and regions, just made me feel a little bit embarrassed that I was now living in this wine enthusiastic country, and here I was, just ignorant. I wanted to be able to go to dinner, ask for the wine list and order something interesting because of the WINE and not just drive my choice based on the price. Thankfully wine tastings are great ways to mingle and explore as an expat, so I fully took advantage of that. They also turned out to be very informative and interactive. I started frequenting the local wine shop in my neighborhood and developing a relationship with the owner. Every time I would go to pick up a bottle, she would tell me the region, the variety and something she found interesting about the bodega that made it. She saw I was interested as I was one of the regulars at her tastings, until one day she suggested I enroll in WSET.

I looked into WSET, but at that time it wasnt a good fit- let me be honest, I had no interest in enrolling in classes, I was in a new country and dating and didnt want to spend anytime doing real studying- so I continued going to tastings but I also started going to visits to bodegas around Madrid and really most anywhere I went. Then I moved onto reading and getting into more technical info and details. Reading wine books REALLY led me to finally making the decision of enrolling in wine school and study for my WSET, because although the tastings and bodega visits helped my tasting technique I was still waysssss away from being a connoisseur. So I decided to pull the trigger and enroll in a formal wine education.

Wrapping it up, my goal is to share new wine finds, some of my favorites or go-to´s, ¨interesting¨ finds, goodies from my travels and wines for different budgets. Although my main focus will be wine, I will also share tips on my other hobbies such as travel and planning... YESSSSS I am definitely a planner.

Hope you guy enjoy it!
